Ever looked up at the sky and realised there was a mysterious black cloud above your head? No? You must've never been to the South of France during autumn then.
The first time my family and I ever witnessed the big black cloud, it's safe to say we thought the apocalypse was happening; we even pulled the car over to get a better look are what was coming to kill us. After thinking we were going to die for a full 10 seconds, we realised that it was just a massive flock of little black birds.
During the autumn, all of the birds suddenly decide to put on a little dance for us human folk. Hundreds of them join in together and fly in different patterns throughout the day, there are so many that you sometimes even get shaded from the sun by them.
I don't know the science behind it, all I know is that it's a seriously cool thing to see. Even now, after 15 years spent in the South of France, we still stop and stare until they've moved on.
